Family 2015

On March 20th, an exhibition of photography by members of the "Photographic Circle" association (www.photocircle.gr) is inaugurated at the Benaki Museum (1 Koumbari Street – Kolonaki), curated by Plato Rivellis (www.rivellis.gr), with the theme "Family". The exhibition will last until May 24th.

The exhibition features photographers with personal portfolios. The approach to the theme will be abstract and general, as the title of the exhibition suggests. It is not an exhibition of family relations, nor a sincere and faithful recording of relatives. Any people, residences, or objects may be depicted, as long as they refer to what constitutes the sense of a family.

The "Family" exhibition aims to highlight a shift by many contemporary photographers towards their exclusively personal surroundings. In a field that for many years had been left and limited—perhaps even with some disdain—to so-called commemorative and amateur photography.

The photos of the exhibition may rely—at least most of them—on capturing, transferring, and transforming the photographer's familiar spaces, but they aim and hope to mobilize and generate emotions in the viewers that are connected with their own familiar spaces and personal memories.

The exhibition includes 33 photographers with 300 photographs.
