Stone and Sea

The stone, inextricably linked with the fate of the Cypriot people, and the sea, a key element in shaping their temperament, will be the main themes of the exhibition and the poetry meeting. A journey through deeply rooted stones, statues, and pebbles on this Mediterranean peninsula. The sea as a cultural value, as a space of utopia, open to otherness. A dialogue of image and word through a meeting of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot creators.

Stone and Sea
A photography exhibition

The theme of a group exhibition is merely a connecting link among various creative proposals. However, when the exhibition pertains to photography, there must also be another, suggestive yet distinct cohesive term, which concerns the type of photography, so as to partially define the goal of gathering different photographers. The goal of this particular exhibition was the expression of a visual poetics, an artistic dimension, which should not emphasize information as much as the personality of the creator. Hence, the formal and general title of the exhibition gives precedence to the substantive and specific theme, which, as in all art, is the uniqueness of the artist's identity. The theme of this exhibition, so abstract and general, yet so self-evident to the inhabitants of an island, was a challenge to highlight the significance of each personal sensitivity and approach. The selection—albeit few—of photographs from each photographer who submitted samples of their work not only honors their trust and willingness to participate but also multiplies the viewer's interest in the variety of proposals. After all, for both the experienced and merely sensitive viewer, an artistic proposal is always a fortunate encounter, like a first acquaintance full of promises.
