Since 2001, Platon Rivellis has chosen Syros as his permanent residence. The house in Syros was designed to meet the needs not only of a residence but also of organizing seminars.
This building, entirely designed and supervised by his wife Nana Karamagkioli, was inaugurated in June 2001. Since then, the Syros seminars began. Apart from the summer ten-day seminar on photography and critique held at the beginning of July, other seminars, usually four-day ones, on photography and (primarily) cinema are scheduled throughout the year. The house in Syros is located in "Amarantos" (a very old and almost forgotten name on the island), exactly where Kato Manna ends (προσοχή: το Κάτω Μάννα) and Vari begins. After the turn from Azolimnos, a small concrete agricultural road of 800 meters in total length leads to the estate.
The estate, with a total area of 6,200 sq.m., fenced with dry stone, overlooks the sea from everywhere, south to Paros and Antiparos, north to Ermoupolis and Tinos. The "Amarantos" location is on the eastern side of the island, about 4-5 kilometers from the center of Ermoupolis, the island's capital. The ground floor space, covering 250 sq.m., is the residence, which is also used by those participating in the seminars. Two guest rooms on the ground floor and another two in the basement serve for the accommodation of teachers, assistants, and friends.
The outdoor spaces, the verandas, the kitchen, the pool, as well as the auxiliary building of the village oven and the grill, serve during the breaks and host the members and participants for discussions outside of lessons.
The entire basement space (also about 250 square meters) is dedicated to the seminars and specifically built for them. A large (120 sq.m.) seminar room, fully equipped.
